Privacy Policy

As with all web sites operating in Europe, we are required to act within the GDPR regulations. We are also required to act within the payment industry’s PCI-DSS standards which require that we look after your personal and payment information.

What information do we collect?

We collect information from you when you place an order, subscribe to our newsletter or respond to a survey.

When you navigate our site, we use cookies to allow you to allow us to know which items you have added to your basket and to assist us in collecting your data in order to complete an email. We will also collect your internet address (IP address).

If you order from us, we will collect both delivery and payment information and your email address. We only send marketing emails to us if you consent during the order process. We will send an order confirmation email to you once you have placed an order.

We do not store your payment data – it is submitted to our payment processor who securely store it on our behalf. We are unable to obtain access to your card data once submitted to our card processor.

Who do you share this information with?

We do not and have never bought or sold customer information or items such as unsolicited email lists.

We only send your information to companies directly involved with processing your order. So our fulfilment firm (who access your data through our company web site) and our courier (e.g. Royal Mail). they only have access to the necessary information to complete your order.

If you are paying by credit card, we submit that information to our payment processor. If you use Paypal, we do, of course, have to share information with them.

If you pay over the phone, you are usually talking to a member of Jo Divine staff, but we may also use a third party call handling company.

All the companies we share data with are EU based and are required to follow the GDPR directives.

Am I tracked by third-party sites when I visit Jo Divine?

In order to help us improve our site, your visit is also tracked by Google Analytics. We use this information to see, for example, what sites send visitors to us (through web links) and what searches people use to find our site. This information is not personally identifiable by us, nor do we use it for any remarketing towards customers who have visited our site.

We also use Google Adwords on our site to advertise our site and products. We submit data on our sales success page to allow us to track a successful purchase. Again, we do not use this data for remarketing.

Email subscriptions

From May 2018, all customers must explicitly opt-in during the order process. prior to that date, the opt-in was pre-selected but we always sent a “Welcome” email allowing customers to opt out.

Our email subscription list is managed separately from our main customer database. If you opt-in to the email list, we just log the email address and which page on the web site you opted-in from.

We always supply an unsubscribe link in our marketing emails.

Your “right to be forgotten”

If you wish to be forgotten entirely, please contact our Data Protection Officer (see above).

We will anonymise any readily accessible information about your orders or any other customer information.

The following caveats apply about your right to be forgotten:

  • Like all responsible companies, we backup our data. Your data will remain in our backups until those backups expire. Backup expire currently on an ad-hoc basis when we delete old data, but we will be moving to a more regular disposal period of 3 months in the near future.
  • We are required to keep tax records for a period of 6 years. We are currently working out a methodology that allows us to both fulfil our tax obligations and our GDPR regulations.

How do we protect your information?

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information when you place an order or enter, submit, or access your personal information.

We offer the use of a secure server. All supplied sensitive/credit information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then encrypted into our Payment gateway providers database only to be accessible by those authorized with special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential.

After a transaction, your private information (credit cards, social security numbers, financials, etc.) will not be stored on our servers.

Do we use cookies?

Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the sites or service providers systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.

We use cookies to help us remember and process the items in your shopping cart and understand and save your preferences for future visits.

If you prefer, you can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies via your browser settings. Like most websites, if you turn your cookies off, some of our services may not function properly. However, you can still place orders over the telephone or by contacting customer service.

Do we disclose any information to outside parties?

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property, or safety. However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include or offer third party products or services on our website. These third party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these sites.
