Last year an estimated £1.6 billion was spent celebrating Valentine’s Day
The average spend was £40 by men and £24 by the women. The chocolate manufacturer Thornton’s produced an extra billion chocolates to meet the demand on Valentine’s Day and 1 billion red roses and 48 million boxes of chocolate were sold.
However it does depends where you live with as to just how much you spend. According to Worldpay (2016) the lovely people in Preston are the most generous with an average spend opf £53, followed closely by Milton Keynes who spend £49 and Aberdeen who spend £48.
For those living in the West Midlands, average spend is much less than the national average with on £26 per person being spent.
But it’s the thought that counts and many couples enjoy simple treats and gifts, just wanting to spend time with each other.
