According to a survey conducted by Elizabeth Arden in 2013, 21% of women would give up sex if it made them look younger.

In actual fact, having regular sex makes you look younger!

New research conducted by the University of California (2017) has found that having sex at least once a week slows aging in women – even if they do not enjoy being intimate. I’m not sure forcing yourself to have sex when you don’t enjoy it just to look younger is a good idea. It would be better to discover why you are not enjoying intimacy and find ways to enjoy sex more.

Research conducted in 2013 by Dr David Weeks, a British consultant clinical psychologist and former head of old age psychology at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, found that regular sex can make you look younger – and that older women and women with an active sex life can appear 5-7 years younger than their actual age.

Masturbation is beneficial if you don’t have a partner but sexual intercourse produces the best results.

Sex releases anti-inflammatory molecules

When you have sex, the skin becomes bathed in anti-inflammatory molecules such as oxytocin and beta endorphins which help to repair cells.

Sex makes your skin glow

Having sex boosts the immune system and increases the circulation which triggers the sexual flush. Sweating also creates that dewy complexion too.

Sex prevents dry skin

Sex increases the production of oestrogen responsible for improving skin elasticity and dryness.

Sex can help to clear acne

Having sex can improve insomnia and promote better sleep which is beneficial to helping skin repair. Skin repairs itself during sleep. People who are stressed or sleep deprived tend to be prone to more spot outbreaks.

Sex makes us more relaxed

Our facial expressions are more relaxed during sex and this post sex glow can help ward off wrinkles.

Sex makes us smile

Smiling uses more facial muscles (12) than frowning (11). As we tend to smile more, the muscles used when smiling are in better shape therefore improving general muscle tone and reducing sagging around the face, making us look younger. Smiling also takes less effort because the smile muscles are used more frequently and require less energy than the frown muscles which are used less often.

When people have sexual intercourse, they aren’t thinking: “Oh, this will boost my immunity and make me look younger”, they do it because it is pleasurable. Having satisfying sex is paramount to overall happiness and well being.

When you feel good, this is reflected in the way you look: not just your skin but your whole demeanour and confidence.
